My watermelon popsicle. It was really hot after climbing through all the caves, so I enjoyed a nice refreshing watermelon popsicle.

Our Goliath across the river bed.
Today was such a fun field trip! We started the day off at Beth-Shemesh where the story of Samson and Deliah took place. We had a "dramatic reading" of the story on the hill overlooking the Aijalon Valley.
Then we went to Azekah which was the old Israelite city on a hill which protected the Elah Valley and Bethlehem. From the top of this old city we could see the Valley and the riverbed where David fought Goliath.
Cary and Esther made a Goliath for us to kill in the Elah Valley. We each wrote one of our own personal "Goliath's" on a piece of paper and taped it to Goliath. Cary brought out the face last: Churck Norris. He said it would evoke lots of terror and fear in us and we would have to rely on the Lord to help us conquer this Goliath. So funny!
So they propped Goliath up on the otherside of the riverbed and we used sling slots to hurl stones at Goliath. Initially our aim was really bad, so people just picked up rocks and threw them. Don't worry, Goliath was completely thrashed! We were victorious!
The next couple stops on our trips were to ancient Israelite towns that had underground tunnels and caves built for housing doves. We also went to some huge bell caves.
The best part of the day was splunking! We inched our way through tiny, narrow tunnels. We went through the most difficult caves. It was a tight squeeze into the tunnel, then it opened up in a cavern with lots of little tunnels going off in many directions. The way ouf the cavern was through a tiny tunnel. I laid on my stomach and inched through. The last tunnel to get out was too tight to go through on my stomach. I flipped out on my back and slipped out. A group of people were standing outside to greet us and pull us out if we needed help. As each person came out they'd yell: "It's a boy" or "It's a girl"
It really did look the cave was giving birth when people wedged themself out
